Our institute was first established in 1982 as the “Institute of Biochemistry”. The master’s program was founded in that year, and the doctoral program was founded five year later in 1987. To keep up with the trend in modern biomedical sciences, the Institute expanded its focus from conventional biochemistry to molecular medicine, molecular biology, proteomics, and structural biology and was therefore changed its name to “Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology” in August of 2005. The Institute was again renamed as Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in February of 2021, due to the merge between National Yang Ming University and National Chiao Tung University.
Besides being a member of the School of Biological Sciences, our Institute collaborates closely with the School of Medicine and is committed to excel in both biomedical research and education. Over the past 40 years, our Institute has cultivated outstanding national and international talent in the field of biomedical sciences and has established a strong international reputation with the efforts of our faculty and students. The current missions of the Institute are to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, facilitate high-quality basic and translational research, foster a new generation of biomedical researchers, and assist in the development of Taiwan’s biotechnology industry.
